We’re just barely recovered from OTHERfolk 2012 and looking forward already to Lupercalia 2012 on the February Family Day long weekend!  Friday, February 17th will see a large feature concert at the Roxy Theatre with some amazing artists from home and away, while Saturday, February 18th will offer our multi-venue experience at multiple downtown Owen Sound restaurants, bars, stores, and coffee shops.  If you, or anyone you know would like to participate as an artist in Lupercalia 2012, download the Lupercalia 2012 Artist Application Form and fill it out.  Applicants can email it to us or use old fashion snail-mail (details included in the form).  See you at Lupercalia!

Walk through beautiful downtown Owen Sound and check off each site as you visit different art and cultural displays in local storefronts, cultural institutions, and galleries.   The Art & Culture Walk lasts from August 14th – 20th.

OTHERfolk 2011 Schedule

Writer D.J. McIntosh will appear at OTHERfolk 2011.

One of the things we’re really excited about this year is the inclusion of writers at OTHERfolk.  Featuring published authors, poets, and playwrites, our writers program will present writers in a meet-and-greet environment, where festival goers can interact and hear the writers read from their own work.  The Downtown Bookstore is the feature literary venue where a host of writers will hold court: Nathan Whitlock –  Globe and Mail contributor and author of “A Week of This” , D.J. McIntosh – author of Penguin Canada’s  ”Babylon Trilogy”,  Meaghan Strimas – editor of The Selected Gwendolyn MacEwan and author of two books of poetry out on Exile Editions, and celebrated feminist playwrite Sonja Mills.  And, there will be a FREE in-store demonstration by Elisabeth De Mariaffi  author of “Eat it up! Lip-smacking Recipes for Kids” at the Rocking Horse Toy Store in the afternoon.  We are very happy to have such an amazing line-up of authors for the first year of our OTHERfolk Writers Program – we hope you’ll come out!

We’re extremely happy to have electronic musician and dubstep composer Larch (aka Charlie Grandine) on our label.  Who woulda thunk that a small-town boy could make such rippin’ big city music as what is seeping from the pores ‘o Larch.  Check out some of his criminally sick tracks at his Youtube channel.  720 pixel it up!

We’ve tweaked the lineup for OTHERfolk 2011 somewhat, with some additional acts and new venues.  We’re really excited to be adding a Jazz & Classical component to this year’s festival with some of the best players from the area.  Also, Randy’s Records is sponsor of the “Vinyl Ark” featuring “Rasta” Randy Poste playing selections from his immense vinyl library with DJ Profit, plus locally produced dubstep from Larch, and the lyrical rhymes of MC Savvy C (Don’t miss this powerful female rapper originally from London, Ontario).  More excitement as we get closer to August 18th!!!
