The Big Love

Thrown together in a whirlwind to support a one-off concert by a visiting troubadour, the Big Love has turned into a persistent local musical force. With varied instrumentation including classical, folk, and popular instruments and an eclectic roots-based repertoire, they continue to develop their sound – now with their monthly “Hoot ‘nanny” at the Chaise Lounge in Owen Sound. Join them the last Friday of every month and discover why the tagline is true: “The Big Love is not a band, but a feeling.”

Brandon Sheppard (aka Okee)

I first met Brandon on Owen Sound’s main street, where he was busking with an acoustic guitar.  Little did I know this folk-singer-by-day was also an amazing electronic-musician-by-night, conjuring up sophisticated beats with pyschadelic textures by the light of his home computer.  We’re totally stoked to be working with Okee to release some of his cool electro-folk creations. Look for his first release with Mudtown Records sometime in 2011. – Josh

Charles Glasspool

Many well-known and respected artists have sang Charles Glasspool’s songs; Juno award winner Serena Ryder, Andre Ethier (member of the Polaris Prize nominated band the Deadly Snakes), and Canadian chanteuse Lilly Frost to name a few. He has been a member of the critically lauded band the Burning Hell and was a contributing songwriter and performer with the Bob Lanois produced band the Silverhearts. Mr. Glasspool teaches elementary school, looks silly when he dances, and has a penchant for tight slacks. His recording with the Big Love titled “Mudtown” is available from our webshop.

Kildear

Kildear met at a folk festival at the age of six. Obviously something about the music and community stuck with them on some level; here they are, over a decade later, making folk-pop harmonies and
playing festivals themselves. Their sound incorporates acoustic guitars and twining harmonies, with additional instrumentation when they feel like it. Having just released their debut, “Cottaging EP”,
they’re looking ahead to more releases and bigger and better things.

Hours, Now

Jonathan O’Leary is the multi-talented visual artist and multi-instrumentalist behind this multimedia project. He blends electronic glitches and soundscapes with classical violin, piano, and a melancholic voice, transporting the listener to a place of familiarity that they have not yet visited. Included with this sonic collage are intoxicating images that combine to set the audience afloat an intoxicating artful presentation.

Hours, Now will release an EP on Mudtown Records sometime in 2011.

Larch

From the primordial ooze, which is the building block for all things sick and dope, cometh Larch (aka Charlie Grandine). Creating technical Dubstep wizardry like a Mad Professor in his home laboratory, this fresh talent is going to melt some eardrums yesterday.  Check his long list of mixes, remixes, and mixups on his Youtube site and stay tuned for downloadable Larch goodness in 2011.

Merival

Merival began as a five year old angrily banging on the keys of a century-old piano. After about
a decade of that, she moved onto guitar, banjo, mandolin, dulcimer, or whatever happens to be
around, with a definite focus on vocals and a sound somewhere in the vicinity of folky. At this
point, she’s a one-woman musician/amateur recording artist/producer with some high hopes for
the future. She’s also one half of the harmonizing folk-pop duo Kildear.
